Boston Unity Group meeting – “Playmaker: Making Games with or without Coding in Unity”

The Boston Unity Group is proud to invite you to join Jenna Hoffstein and Creath Carter as they present PlayMaker as a platform for non-programmers and other designer-types to create interactive games with or without coding. They will cover :
– A short history of software development tools that utilize schematic-based visual scripting and finite state machines.
– Why choose Playmaker over other visual scripting toolkits?
– What are the different ways Playmaker can be used? (ie both in teams with and without programmers)
– What are some of the drawbacks / frustrations to using Playmaker.
– Present projects to showcase the variety of applications PlayMaker can be used for.
Afterwards, we will be heading to Cambridge Brew Company for some beers, cider and extended networking.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Jenna Hoffstein is a Boston-based game designer with a mission to make meaningful and personality-filled games. In the summer of 2013 Jenna founded her own studio, Little Worlds Interactive, to make the best possible educational games; games full of fun, adventure, and high-quality educational content. Jenna has experience designing and developing across a number of platforms, and has worked at larger studios including Turbine and Stomp Games, as well as with indie studios like Giant Spacekat and Lantana Games.
Creath Carter is an artist and designer for the interactive medium, with over 10 years of experience in the game industry. He currently heads up art and development for the educational software company PBn’Games Inc. while balancing his art contracting business along with his own his own independent projects. His varied interests include game development as an artform, astrophysics, research in robotics and biology, literature, virtual and augmented reality, simulation as an artform, and software development for education. His primary development tools are 3dsMax, Zbrush, Photoshop, Unity and PlayMaker, and he is currently writing the PlayMaker handbook.
