Join us every Thursday afternoon for classic grooves in the Lewis Music Library! \nSchedule \nJan 10: From vinyl to digital audio / Soul\nJan 17: Speakers and sound systems / Disco\nJan 24: Turntables and mixers / Hip-Hop\nJan 31: Computers and sampling / House & Techno\n\nEach session will start with an informal talk on developments in DJ tools and craft over five decades of dance music. \nThen join us for an hour of listening to a music genre that fueled those changes\, inspired creativity\, and reimagined the dance floor. \nYou are welcome to join us for any part of the seminar. Dancing is recommended but not required.  \n \n  \nAbout the speaker: Philip Tan is a research scientist in CMS/W who started the MIT Dance Mix Coalition in 1998. He organizes Local Beats\, a quarterly all-ages inclusive community party\, and brings a balearic blend of garage house\, disco\, electro\, trance\, and dub to parties around Cambridge and Somerville. \n \n
