DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by the MIT Game Lab \nThe MIT Game Lab is happy to host the Boston Indies group this July for their monthly meeting. This month features Professor Celia Pierce from Northeastern University and IndieCade. As usual\, come at 6pm for networking. The talk starts at 7pm: \nIndieCade Co-founder Celia Pearce talks about the epic changes that have taken place in the indie space—including its growing influence on mainstream gaming—since IndieCade launched its first showcase at E3 in 2007.  \nCelia Pearce is a game designer\, artist\, curator\, author\, teacher\, and serial instigator. She currently holds a position as Associate Professor of Game Design at Northeastern University. Her games have been featured at Come Out & Play\, Different Games\, Boston Festival of Independent Games\, CHI\, and SIGGRAPH. She is co-founder and Festival Chair of IndieCade\, where she is also responsible for inclusiveness initiatives\, and also served as co-curator for XYZ: Alternative Voices in Video Games. She has written numerous papers\, as well as books on game culture\, including Communities of Play (MIT Press\, 2009). She is also co-founder of Ludica women’s game collective\, which authored a chapter for the previous volume in this series\, beyond Barbie and Mortal Kombat.  \nAbout Boston Indies (www.bostonindies.com):\nBoston Indies is a community of dedicated independent game developers in Massachusetts and the surrounding area. Boston Indies works to foster a sense of community among Boston’s independent game developers\, facilitate monthly meet-ups and other related community events\, encourage developers to create games independent of large budgets and large company ties\, provide a safe environment to obtain critical feedback on game development works in progress and serve as a brain trust for important information sharing among local independent developers. \n
